While the United States is still trying to catch up with tankless water heater technology, other parts of the world are moving on to an even more efficient way of heating water…through solar water heaters. While solar water heaters can only be used when the sun is shining (while a backup electrical water heater is used when the sun isn’t out), they can still cut energy use in half in many parts of the world; which is something that the United States could desperately use in California and places along the East Coast.

Below is a video about how people in China have utilized this solar technology to cut their costs in heating water. The first person in the video is the mayor of a city called Rizhao, explaining how most of the buildings in his city use solar water heaters. The second person is someone who uses a solar water heater to heat the water in his house.

They aren’t too big (most are about the size of a briefcase), and they aren’t too heavy (around 8 to 15 pounds), which makes them very easy to tote around.

Below is a video demonstrating how to use a portable tankless water heater. It shows you how to hook it up properly, how to turn it on, and gives a few precautions when using these type of water heaters. They are very handy, especially if you are outdoors a lot. Enjoy the video!

A couple of these things include a safety valve shut off and a rubber washer between your copper pipe and lead hook up.

Below is a video by Tim Carter. In this video he goes over some important safety tips everyone should pay attention to when installing a hot water heater. This is a great video to watch if you have any questions at all about whether or not your water heater is being (or has been) installed correctly and safely.

The video below is by Chris Spannagel, a certified plumber. If you have never checked or lit a pilot light before, then this is a great tutorial on how to do it. There is a little more information on the video than you probably will need to know; nonetheless, Chris is quite thorough in explaining and showing everything you would need to know for troubleshooting your water heater pilot light.

Tankless hot water heaters are great for many reasons. One of the reasons people like tankless water heaters is because of their energy efficiency. In order to keep their high efficiency, it is important to perform regular maintenance on them. The maintenance on them is quite minimal, yet it can make all the difference in the performance and the life of the heater (much like regularly changing out the filters in heating/AC units).

Below is a video by Matt Risinger, which shows you how to properly flush your tankless water heater (one of the most important things you do in maintaining your water heater). It is something that is quite simple and something you should be able to do yourself with the help of this video.

When looking for tankless water heater reviews, you must be very careful. Most people who are doing “reviews” on tankless water heaters are trying to sell a particular brand of water heater or are trying to sell a service. If you do a search for “tankless water heater reviews” on youtube, for example, all you get are videos promoting a particular water heater or a service. The video below is a perfect example of that. The title of the video is “Tankless-Water-Heater-Reviews-Bay-Area.” The guy in the video isn’t reviewing various types or brands of tankless water heaters; rather, he gives an overview of how to choose a tankless water heater for your particular needs, and then he offers his sevices.

So what is the best way to get a tankless water heater review? The best way is to talk to independent plumbers who have at least a few years of experience in this particular field (in other words they have the proper certifications to install and repair tankless water heaters). They will give you the most honest, and likely the most accurate, reviews you can find.

If you are new to the idea of tankless water heaters, then this video will be a great introduction for you.

Rheem tankless water heaters do have some special features that are specific to their brand. One of which is a digital remote control thermostat. This allows you to quickly and easily set the temperature of the water from a digital pad. The digital pad also allows you to do easy trouble shooting and maintenance.

The last part of the video explains how to install a Rheem tankless water heater. This is not something that we recommend doing yourself unless you already have some experience in plumbing. Nonetheless, the video will explain to you the basics of how to do it for those brave enough to try.

Installing tankless water heaters is no easy task, and is usually only attempted by the ultimate do-it-yourselfer. Keep in mind that tankless water heaters are more complicated to install than traditional water heaters. Due to this, it would be best to hire a plumber who is certified in tankless water heater installation (not all plumbers are certified in this area, as tankless water heater installation requires a special certification).

If you feel that you would still like to install your tankless water heater on your own, then this video will help get you started. Be aware that you will most likely have to change the plumbing around as well as deal with gas and electricity lines. If you have successfully installed your own tankless water heater, then we would like to hear from you. Please let us know of your thoughts and experience!
